How did Springfield, Ohio get its name?
Springfield got its name from the wife of Simon Kenton an early frontiersman with Daniel Boone, because there were so
many natural springs in the area. Today, there is a memorial statue honoring Simon Kenton near Urbana, at Kenton's grave
in Oak Dale Cemetery

New Study Shows How Salt Consumption Is Endangering Our
Kids
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio, Sept. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The declining health of America's children has a lot to do
with a culprit few even suspect: salt. A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published
in the journal Pediatrics has found that kids between the ages of 8 and 18 are eating as much salt as adults and
more than twice the 1,500 daily milligrams recommended by the American Heart Association. These high-sodium
diets along with a related increase in obesity have led to increasing high blood pressure levels (once viewed as
an adult illness) among our youth.

Heart Surgeon Surender Neravetla Says 'Salt Is Killing Our
Kids'
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio, June 27, 2012 -- The declining health of America's children has a lot to do with a culprit
few even
suspect: salt. In Salt Kills (Health Now Books, 2012), Dr.
Surender R. Neravetla, a heart surgeon and the Director of Cardiac Surgery at Springfield Regional Medical
Center explains in easy-to-understand language why salt can be even more of a problem during a child's
formative years than it is later on in adulthood. In addition, it sets children up for increased stroke and
heart risk later in life.
