The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations (commonly known as Rhode Island) is geographically the smallest state in the United States, and the state with the longest official name. Rhode (pronounced "Road") Island is part of the New England region, and was one of the thirteen original American colonies that declared independence against British rule to begin the American Revolution.
Dan was born about 1830 and married Mary Mead who was born in Rockingham, VT. Mary's brother, James, had a saw mill on the Chazy River. I think that sometime after Dan and Mary were married they moved to Altona, perhaps to be with family. They are on the 1860 & 70 census for Altona. I have been searching for Dan's ancestors for some time without luck, on ancestry and other sites. Dan, Mary, daughter, Alice A., and son, Henry are buried in the Old Mooers Cemetery. Daughter, Hattie married and lived in St. Albans, VT and is buried there. I called Altona Town Hall for vitals and was told they had a fire. I am looking for any vitals on this family. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.--Submitted by Lynn Menard Mathieson
