Stephen Benedict Roberts was the first Post Master of Pelican Lake, Wisconsin in 1882. In most records he is recorded as just plain S.B.Roberts. He was elected Forest County Judge in years 1885 and 86.Also in 1885 he served as Town Chairman. He had a mercantile business in Pelican Lake which he later moved to Edgar,Wisconsin and was in close association with C.C. DeLong a prominant businessman and fellow Forest County official at Pelican Lake. S.B. Roberts was the father of Wanda Dale Roberts-Scearce. He died in 1904 when she was just four years old. In 1914 his widow, Mary Ann Zimmermann - Roberts moved from Edgar, Wisonsin with her two small children, Wanda Dale and Stephen Forest Roberts and her father, William Frederick Zimmermann,to Eugene, Oregon and in 1915 to Hood River,Oregon. Wanda there married Richard Gregg Scearce. Her younger brother married,Goldie Sartain, but had no children. Wanda who went by her middle name of Dale, was our grandmother. She lived to the age of 95. It was her information about her father that lead to my research and this information. Most of which is recorded in early editions of Newpapers printed in Pelican Lake. - L.L. Hanners
