Maud Stern Tinkle is my greatgrandmother. I was told by my mother Betty Tinkle Knight that Maud's sister worked for the post office and was allowed to choose a name for the town, so she named it Maud after her little sister. - D. Knight Thomason I am writing for my mother, Mattie who was born in Maud, Oklahoma to Charile and Minnie Black. Mattie's father, Charlie had a sister who lived there and her last name was Henderson. Mattie's father had at least three sisters named Alice, Carmen and Rose and two brothers named Jim and Bill. Bill had a daughter named Teresa. Mattie lived in Maud, Oklahoma until about 6 years old. Mattie is now 93 years old and interested in information about the people and the town of Maud, Oklahoma - especially those that have a connection to those early years of 1917 - 1923. Mattie remembers the 1920s General Store there and the wooden steps and walkway in front - the candy, flour, sugar and nuts…everything in barrels. - Carolyn Deller
