My name is Ray Rayhart. I am the Director of Emergency Management for the City of Eldon, MO. I am sending you some information on Creve Coeur, Missouri as I remember it. I started my school years in Creve Coeur by attending kindergarden in the basement of the old american legion building in 1953. I remember playing on the school yard while wearing a campain button that said I Like Ike. President Eisenhower was running for office then. I then attended Weber School on New Ballas Rd. for awhile. We lived on Olive Street Rd then near the Catholic Church. My grandparents were Phillip and Alma Herzog of Creve Coeur. They resided on Studt Ave. off of Old Ballas Rd. The house is long gone. I am told he was once the constable many years ago. He was also on the Fire Department. I remember a drugstore on Olive St. Road which was ran by a German woman named Ms Fitch. She was robbed several times and found tied up in the basement of her store. She finally got a German Shepard which she spoke to in German, to protect her. While in school I had a good friend named Dale Dierberg, whose father ran Dierbergs grocery near the corner of Old Ballas Rd. and Olive Street Rd. I wonder whatever happened to Dale. My mother used to caddie as a young girl, on the golf course which at that time was located on Old Ballas Rd. I remember an old junk yard ran by a man named Art Teaman. (Not sure of the spelling) The junk yard was on Olive Street Rd. near the Fire House at that time. My brother and I would play among the junk cars. I once remember my younger brother, playing hookie from school. He was found playing in a neighbors back yard by a policeman named Henry Nichols. Henry put my brother in the police car and turned on the siren, which really scared my brother into thinking he was going to jail. There are many other memories I have of the town. I intend to visit the city, and see some of the changes made over the years. - Ray Rayhart
