I remember the old elementary school, which I attended in 1959-61. It was a 3-story brick monstrosity, that was already past it's usefulness. For fire exits, it had metal tube slides, so fire drills were more exciting to us than to children going to more modern schools. It didn't even have a bell system - just a big bell, much like the Liberty Bell, hanging from a bell tower. The rope to ring it was on the 3rd floor, and the principal would let the 6th-graders ring it. The building was so old that plaster was falling from the ceiling. But when it came time to make the decision to replace it, a two-year-long fight followed. Some of the school board members had attended the old school, as well as their parents and grandparents. Finally, in about 1962, the present building was built, and the grand old building, with it's heavy colonial woodwork and turn-of-the-century style, was ripped to the ground. After all the fuss the school board put up to save the historical building, it amazes me that I can't even locate a picture of it on the web! - Georgia Vallejos Lake Village is on the largest lake in Indiana. The big problem is the fact there is no water in the lake now. The destuctions of one of the greatest ecosystems in the world (smart men) . People used to come on Sailing Ships from Europe just to hunt and fish there Bever Lake(I think is the name) The Geese filled the sky and blocked out the sun. The lake was the home to a gang of horse thieves on Bogus Island.(they could change the appearance of a horse so the owner could not recognize them. Some smart men (Morons)drained the Lake. There is a lot of interesting history about the area. Now they want to put the Lake Back, It's almost imposiblle, there are towns where the Lake used to be??? - J Wagner
