How did North Vernon, Indiana get its name?
Because it is North of Vernon. It was originally named Lick Skillet.

What is the most beautiful or interesting NATURAL attraction in or near North Vernon, Indiana and why?
The Muscatatuck River Park between Vernon and North Vernon at the overlook there. Nature's canvas of river,
overlook, the sun reflecting upon the clear water flowing over the stones at the crossover and amid the surrounding
forest is the definition of peaceful. I spent many hours contemplating life and childhood drama there as a youth in the
50's and early '60's. And, it doesn't seem to vary in composition between the rare visits I have made over the years.
It still takes my breath away.

Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge is becauseof all the wonderful birds that can be seen there almost anytime of
year.Last year my husband and I saw a Bald Eagle there as well as a pair of Swans. For wildlife lovers, there is an abundance
of creatures to photograph or just observe, White Tail Deer are plentyful as well as many other of our woodland friends.
And last but not least, there is a very wide assortment of wildflowers to stop and enjoy. Muscatatuck is awesome !!

Where is the best place to eat in North Vernon, Indiana and why?
Miller's Tavern is the best place to eat. They serve the best roast beef Manhattans I've ever had, and I've
been all over this country. Unfortunately, those are served only on Thursdays, but the rest of the food there is fantastic.
