How did Fowler, Indiana get its name?
Moses Fowler came to Lafayette with John Purdue to go into the mercantile business. He became a financier of great
wealth. Moses foresaw the opportunity of agriculture and he and his brother-in-law, Adams Earl, also, financier
accumulate land in the county totaling over 30,000 acres. Moses Fowler gave the land in which the town of Fowler was
established.

business. He became President of the Lafayette Bank and as time progressed he became a wealthy land owner, cattle
baron, merchant, and railroad builder. He owned 30,000 acres of agriculture ground in Benton County. Moses gave land
in which the town of Fowler was built.
