As of the 2000 CensusGR2, there were 8,506 people, 2,591 households, and 2,204 families residing in Ahuimanu. The population density was 1,834.7/km sq. (4,745.1/mi sq.). There were 2,681 housing units at an average density of 578.3/km sq. (1,495.6/mi sq.). The racial makeup of the CDP was 22.27% White, 0.95% Black or African American, 0.14% Native American, 34.72% Asian, 9.85% Pacific Islander, 0.66% from other races, and 31.41% from two or more races. 8.12% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 2,591 households out of which 41.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.9% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 14.9% were non-families. 10.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.28 and the average family size was 3.51.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 28.1% from 45 to 64, and 7.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.6 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $71,732, and the median income for a family was $74,788. Males had a median income of $47,910 versus $37,929 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $25,381. 3.9% of the population and 2.8% of families were below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.8% of those under the age of 18 and 1.4% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
