On July 22, 2005 Tanya Beirne and Brandi Easter represented Hawaii at the
2005 Spearfishing Nationals in Springfield, Missouri and won first place. Tanya
is a local gal, graduate of Punahou and single mom. Tanya also won the
"largest fish" which means she beat out all competitors, male and female.
Tanya also made a few records with her 21 lb Drum and 17 lb. gar. Tanya has
been raising money in Haleiwa, Hawaii Community repairing and refurbishing
spearguns and dive equipment. Haleiwa Community has been a great support
for her effort. Now the National Champion will go on to represent Hawaii at the
2006 World Championships in Portugal. This would be a great community service
story as the areas locals have cheered her on.
