Hana is a census-designated place located in Maui County, Hawaii. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a
total population of 709. Hana is located at the eastern end of the island of Maui and is one of the most
isolated
towns in the state. It is reached mainly via the Hana Highway, a long, winding highway along Maui's
northern
shore.
Hana is considered one of the last outposts for hippies in Hawaii. Near Hana are several swimming holes
run
by the National Park Service as part of Haleakala National Park.
Geography
Hana is located at 20°46'12" North, 155°59'39" West (20.770017, -155.994179)GR1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 9.0 km sq. (3.5 mi sq.). 5.6 km
sq. (2.2 mi sq.)
of it is land and 3.4 km sq. (1.3 mi sq.) of it is water. The total area is 37.64% water.
