Common Yellow Page Categories for Tiny Town, Colorado
Early seventies we were trying to purchase the Tiny Town Property. The train track and buildings were in poor conition. The building across the street was a restaurant/bar and was part of the property. The owner would not talk to us so our realtor was trying to find out if it was for sale. We were unable to get anything going so we gave up. Not long after that the roof of the restaurant/bar collapsed and everything closed. A few years later the person who had been operating the trains at the 'old' Eliches amusement park took over the property. Eliches had closed down the train ride. This person had his own steam engines in storage in eastern Colorado. He built the new roundhouse and new track. They refurbished many of the old original buildings that were distributed up the hill at Tiny Town. I remember driving by and seeing the buildings in the parking lot of the now defunk restaurant/bar. Soon the place was in operation again and there seemed to be plans to add additional rides etc. I lost track of Tiny Town but later read where the person who had gotten it going and his son were killed. It sems that they were driving south off of Colfax in Lakewood where a railroad siding that went west into the foothills crossed the two lane side road. Some kids were playing on some cars parked on the siding and somehow released the breaks on the railroad cars. The cars began rolling down the hih toward Denver. Well as (bad) luck would hav it the rolling cars and the Tiny Town person reached the unsignaled crossing at the same time and disaster occurred. I guess the family continued to operate Tiny Town for some time after that but must have given up. I again lost track of it. I hav had a interest in the property for some time so it is good to see that it has not completely gone away. Maybe with a n0n-profit running it it will continue. - Lee Sprecker Additional information as I have heard it. The original builder owned a moving company and there are two versons I have herd. first was that he had the buildings built for his daughters enjoyment by employees of the moving company. The second is the he had his employees build the buildings to keep them busy during a slow perios(s) at the businss. One or both or none may be true. I have been told that it was washed out several times by floods on Turkey creek and he finaly just gave up and let it go. - Lee Sprecker
