I lived in Attalla, Alabama as a child for 3 yrs. at the time of WWll. My father was a US Army sergeant stationed at Camp Sibert. I remember an ice cream shop called Wren's. The chocolate malts were the best I ever tasted. I remember the small movie theater in town & going to see war movies like "The Purple Heart", a war movie starring Dana Andrews. My schooling was at the Attalla grade school during 5th & 6th grades. To get our milk, we would walk down the lane & buy it from a family who owned a cow. We lived in a house trailer at Rhea's Trailer Court during that time. Gadsden was the big city where we would go shopping. Trips to the big city of Birmingham to see the statue of the Vulcan. Attalla is a wonderful small town in the South that I vividly remember. I cherish the memory. - M. DeBos (Pavkov) Attalla, Alabama is the site of the first working hydro-electric dam every constructed. - K. Battles
